LITTLE SISTER OF THE ASSUMPTION

Founders: Père Étienne Pernet, A.A. Mother Marie of Jesus (Marie-Antoinette Fage)
Place: Paris, France
Year: 1865 A.D.
Her Charism: Fortified with the Eucharist and animated with intense charity, this Little Sister emulates Christ the Servant in action, in gestures and in words. She enters her mission of bringing God to the physically and spiritually sick with Mary as her constant companion. In the spirit of St. Augustine (“one heart, one family”) she inspires everyone to participate in creating a just society where every voice is heard and valued. Essentially, she is sent to “refashion a people of God” and procure the glory of God by the salvation of the “poor little ones” in this world by nursing the sick poor in their homes. She becomes spiritual leaven and raises minds and hearts of the the suffering to God. With all her being, this Little Sister believes that when the veil of charity touches the face of the poor, the Face of Jesus is etched in it forever. So, it is in small, ordinary, often insignificant ways this Sister discovers the beauty of the life of the Risen Christ in the people and events which mold and shape their lives into the image of Christ. She is a catalyst for change in the lives of vulnerable families and their “apostle of tenderness” – a song that will never end, because it awakens the world and recreates a people for God through social and spiritual services. Like the apostles and Mary Magdala in front of an empty tomb, this Sister can feel the presence of Jesus even if all appearances point to the contrary. She possesses the desire to be a mother, a prophet, and a nun in today’s world.
