Dominican Sister of the Sick Poor
Dominican Sister of the Sick Poor – Sister Maria Bartholemew, D.S.S.P. “Charity in Action”
Foundress: Mother Mary Walsh, O.P.
Place: New York City, New York
Year: 1879 A.D.
Her Charism: Like her foundress, Mary Walsh, this Sister views the sick poor as the children of God crucified on the Calvary of life. Under the patronage of St. Lucy, Martyr, this Sister dedicates her life to being a loving and healing presence to the destitute sick in a fractured world. She gives witness to Gospel poverty by leading a life of simplicity, prayer, and mission. By living in communion with all God’s Creation, and contemplating God’s truth, mercy and compassion, she commits herself to the transforming power of hope.
