Missionary Dominican of the Holy Rosary

Missionary Dominican of the Holy Rosary – Sister Rosa Teresa of the Heart of Jesus, O.P.
Truth (Veritas) and Study are “lights” to discover the Presence of God in the shadows that pierce and hurt humanity. Evangelizing the poor is where the Church is most needed. Inserted in the “heart” of impoverished people, she proclaims the Good News of freedom from slavery and oppression, and knits new relationships among people. She is a Samaritan to those who suffer and a staunch defender of threatened life.
Founders: Blessed Ascencion Nicol Goni and Msgr. Ramon Zubieta, O.P. ( who had the audacity to place himself in the heart of the jungle )
Place: The Peruvian Amazonia, next to the Madre de Dios River, Peru
Year: October 5, 1918 A.D.
Her Charism: Driven by optimism, hope, and deep compassion, this Dominican Missionary stands in solidarity with native peoples who suffer abuses, injustices, poverty, and exclusion. She hears and is attentive to their cries and feels a great enthusiasm and an irresistible strength to offer herself on their behalf. Her sacred mission as a “gift” and she lovingly commits to sharing her entire life with them through the transformative power of education, health, and social promotion. This Sister goes to them as a loving and merciful father who will protect and defend them against any brute force, liberate them, and restore their God-given dignity. Her work as an evangelist bears witness to the resurrected Jesus Who was sent to break boundaries and differences and to create a “heaven on earth.” Mindful that she is ever surrounded by a cloud of witnesses – men and women – from all cultures, ages and peoples who have made Jesus’ words their own, she “goes and makes disciples of all nations.” The Blessed Mother inspires her daunting mission boosting her in tenderness and care. She is a faithful, selfless, and brave woman who “sings” and is made happy by God’s Presence in her story and in the history of her people. It is Mary who always accompanies and witnesses the emergence of the Holy Spirit. Like St. Dominic who was always seeking Truth, this Sister talks to God and about God constantly, expanding the reign of Christ. She truly believes that people are a work of art.
