SISTER OF THE CROSS AND PASSION
Sister of the Cross and Passion – Sister Mary Magdalen of the Pierced Side of Jesus, C.P. “May the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ be ever in my heart.”
Founders: Elizabeth Prout (Mother Mary Joseph) (The “Victorian Mother Teresa”) Reverend Gaudentius Rossi, C.P.
Place: Manchester, England
Year: 1851 A.D.
Her Charism: This contemplative Sister, removed from the breathtaking noise of the world, seeks to unify her life and her apostolate in the Passion of Jesus: to suffer with Christ to redeem the world and share His glory. As Jesus is her constant companion in prayer, she embodies hope, reconciliation, forgiveness, and the compassionate love of God. She keeps Him company in the Garden, in the Praetorium, and on the Cross with a lance in her heart. This Sister labors for the world’s salvation by the preaching of the love expressed in the Passion of Jesus for humanity. This is accomplished through prayer, penance, teaching, running Retreat Houses for women, and visiting the sick and lapsed Catholics in their homes. Her life is the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary. On her holy Passionist habit she wears a badge of a white heart surmounted on a cross bearing the inscription in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin: Jesu (Hebrew ) Christi (Greek) Passio (Latin) . . . The Passion of Jesus Christ.
