SISTER OF CHARITY OF OUR LADY OF MERCY
Sister of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy – Sister Marie-Françoise de Sales, O.L.M. “Sharing in Christ’s mission: Caring for the poor, the uneducated, the orphaned”
Founders: Most Reverend John England Mother Teresa Barry
Place: Charleston, South Carolina
Year: 1829 A.D.
Her Charism: Faithful to her charism of Charity and recognizing that humility is the cord that ties mission and community together, this Sister seeks Christ in the faces of the poor and serves the uneducated and orphaned as did her “spiritual voyager,” St. Vincent de Paul. She performs the spiritual and corporal works of mercy to bear witness to Christ Who healed the afflicted, preached the Good News to the poor, and had compassion on the multitude. Consecrating herself to Blessed Jesus, she places herself under the care of Our Lady of Mercy asking her for the graces she stands in need of. This Sister’s life is a story of charity and a mission of mercy as she strives to live out her consecration in the spirit of the Beatitudes as evidenced by Mary, the Mother of Jesus and the first Gospel woman.
