Foundresses: Saint Bridget of Sweden (Vadstena) Blessed Mary Elizabeth Hesselblad (Rome)

Her Charism: The charism of this Bridgettine Sister is one of ecumenism. Her life is a happy synthesis of monastic and apostolic life, reliving the religious spirit of St. Bridget who believed that the Blessed Virgin is the “Mother and Teacher of all” and the lily in God’s garden. Her monastery is another “Nazareth.” Through study, prayer, sacrifice, and work, her entire life is a reflection of the crucified Jesus and His sorrowful mother at the foot of the Cross and the desire willed by the Lord and His prayer: “Father, that all may be one.” (Ut unum sint) Fascinated by Jesus Christ and consumed by a love for Him, this Sister’s chief obligation is liturgical prayer and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in reparation for the outrages committed against God and for the salvation of souls. Her constant devotion is to hospitality and to work for unity in the Church and among all peoples.
