MEDICAL MISSION SISTER
Medical Mission Sister – Sister Mary Alexandria of Jesus the Healer, M.M.S. “A healing presence at the heart of a wounded world”
Foundress: Anna Dengel, M.D.
Place: Washington, D.C.
Year: 1925 A.D.
Her Charism: This Sister proclaims her commitment of being a healing presence at the heart of a wounded world. She vows to promote both healing and wholeness in all aspects of life and to preserve the integrity and dignity of every person. Her response to the sick and the poor is to be a witness to Christ the Healer and Divine Physician and the charity of the Good Samaritan who tended the beaten man on his journey. While working to empower the poor and oppressed, she weaves care and compassion into the web of life. Following Christ through the observance of holy poverty, chastity and obedience, she serves in hospitals, dispensaries, maternity and child welfare centers, and leprosaria. She may be a doctor, a nurse, a technician, or a pharmacist who dedicates her professional life and work to God for the good of humanity without distinction to race, color, or creed.
