VINCENTIAN SISTER OF CHARITY
Vincentian Sister of Charity – Sister Mária Esther Stanislava, V.S.C. “The Charity of Christ Urges Her.”
Foundress: Mother Mária Emerentiana Handlovits (from Szatmar, Austria-Hungary)
Place: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Year: 1902 A.D.
Her Charism: Carrying the Divine Fire of love everywhere is at the heart of the Vincentian charism. In the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise Marillac, this Sister is impelled by Christ’s love in a mission of charity to respond with compassionate care to the cries of those who are poor and marginalized, especially the Slovakian immigrant population. Her main apostolates are teaching and nursing in hospitals and in the homes of the chronically ill.
