DOMINICAN SISTER OF OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY OF FATIMA
Dominican of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima – Sister María de la Luz de Cristo, O.P. Sister of Fatima “Bringing Christ to families and families to Christ” “The beating heart of Puerto Rico”
Foundress: Servant of God, Mother María Dominga Guzmán Florit, O.P.
Place: Yauco, Puerto Rico
Year: 1949 A.D.
Her Charism: This Sister believes with all her heart that nothing is impossible for God. There is always hope if you have God in your life. Aware that the message of Fatima is addressed to her in a particular way, she speaks to God and lives the contemplative spirit of St. Dominic in service to the Church. She also offers prayers to Our Lady for the sanctification of priests. As a woman of faith, her vocation is to serve families and cultivate pride in the Puerto Rican culture. She is a bridge-builder (gente-puente) in the multicultural reality in which we live, and is a prophetic witness of women religious teaching and evangelizing in the poorest areas of Latino migrant communities. Totally dedicated to the evangelization of families, she contemplates and emulates Mary, a sign of God’s mercy and an icon of God’s tenderness in her “cloistered desert” and shares the solitude of Jesus in Gethsemane and His redemptive suffering on the cross. This Sister embraces the joy of the Gospel and makes that joy her mission. This is the fruit of her contemplation: generous dedication in helping parish life, assisting with family care, and the mission ministry.
