CARMELITE SISTER OF THE AGED AND INFIRM
Carmelite Sister of the Ages and Infirm – Sister Maríela Teresa of St. John, O. Carm. “A beacon of hope for all she serves” “The Difference is Love”
Foundress: Venerable Mother Angeline Teresa McCrory (Bridget Teresa McCrory)
Place: New York City, New York
Year: 1929 A.D.
Her Charism: Through prayer and contemplation this Carmelite Sister lives centered on Christ under the queenship of Mary. This inner journey allows her to have puritas cordis, (purity of heart) and she becomes vacare Deo (free for God). All that she is and does is the Person of Jesus as she journeys to union with God in love. She gives the elderly Christ – His compassion, His interest, His loving care, His warmth morning, noon, and night. Her journey is to “clasp the hand of the elderly person and give comfort, dignity, and meaning to the autumn of their life.” This means inspiring the lay people who work with her to give the same type of loving care.
