CARMELITE SISTER OF CHARITY OF VEDRUNA
Carmelite Sister of Charity of Vedruna – Sister María Esperanza de Claret, C.a.Ch. Congregatio Sororum Carmilitarum Caritatis de Vedruna Hermana Carmelita de la Caridad de Vedruna “Multiplicar el Amor” – “Multiply the Love”
Foundress: Saint Joaquina Vedruna de Más
Place: Barcelona, (Catalonia) Spain
Year: 1826 A.D.
Her Charism: By trusting in Divine Providence, continuous prayer, and a love of Christ Crucified, this Sister “works for the glory of God and the good of the neighbor.” The Rule of the Order combines the austerity and prayerful approach of the Carmelites with the simplicity of the Franciscans. By putting her contemplation into action, she answers the urgent need of the poor abandoned children, unguided youth, and abused women. Teaching, operating orphanages, nursing in hospitals, and care for the aged are her main apostolates. This Sister believes that the Eucharist is carried by the hand of Mary, the sweet Mother of Carmel. With the grace she receives from the Eucharist, she can feel her arms stretching out in order to embrace the needs of the whole world.
