Olivetan Benedictine Sister
Olivetan Benedictine Sister – Sister Mary Beatrice of Divine Providence, O.S.B. “In all things, may God be glorified.” – St. Benedict
Foundresses: Mother Beatrice Renggli Sister Agnes Dali
Place: Underwalden, Switzerland
Year: 1874 A.D.
Her Charism: This monastic woman is a member of a Community whose foundress arrived in Pocahontas, Arkansas from Switzerland with only 83 cents in her pocket! She seeks God through prayer and work (Ora et Labora) and has a way of seeing the sacred in the ordinary. As the Trappist monk and author, Thomas Merton, expressed: “There is nothing whatsoever of the ghetto spirit in St. Benedict. His freshness, freedom, sanity, broadness, and healthiness is treated with reverence and respect so that in all things God may be glorified.” Given her unique missionary spirit, this Sister is dedicated to the increase of God’s praise and glory and is exclusively devoted to turning men’s minds devoutly toward God and the miracles surrounding us. She proclaims Jesus Christ through her hospitable service in healthcare education, prison ministry, and pastoral care.
