Little Sister of Jesus and Mary
Little Sister of Jesus and Mary – Sister Maria Monserrat, L.S.J.M. “Cry the Gospel with your life”
Foundress: Sister Mary Elizabeth Gintling
Place: Baltimore, Maryland
Year: 1974 A.D.
Her Charism: In a simple contemplative lifestyle serving the poor and striving for peace and justice, this Little Sister lives in a Community of women “loving God together” and of “wounded people healing other wounded people.” The daily Eucharist, morning and evening prayer, Adoration, service, and hospitality are hallmarks of her life. She is called to meet Christ in the Eucharist, the poor, in one another and in the created world. Embracing the spirituality of St. Charles de Foucauld, she takes as her mission: to “cry the Gospel with her life.” Hers is a ministry the imitates the life of Jesus in Nazareth. She sees Nazareth (a hidden place of encounter with God) as a workshop in the art of living a humble life of service in the spirit of joy and simplicity. This spirit is the living expression of her charism. Her apostolic work is to stabilize family life and promote social justice. The poor have a special place in her heart.
