Grey Nun of Montreal
Grey Nun of Montréal – Sister Nicolette de Marie Régine , S.G.M. Sister of Charity of Montréal – Soeur Grise de Montréal “In Hoc Signo Vinces” – “By This Sign You Will Conquer” ( † the Cross of Christ is the final triumph of love over every kind of human suffering † )
Foundress: Saint Marguerite d’Youville, (“The Mother of Universal Charity”) ( † the first Canadian-born saint † )
Place: Montréal, Canada
Year: 1738 A.D.
Her Charism: With a strong reliance on Divine Providence, and walking in her foundress’s footsteps, this Sister continues St. Marguerite d’Youville’s vision of charity that knows no limits in the present day. She bravely puts her hand to the plow and sows the field entrusted to her by God. With her mission founded on faith and dignity of the individual, this Sister willingly becomes an instrument of social change by putting on the mind of Christ and seeing His Face in everyone. Her life is one of service to a poor, abandoned, lonely, excluded, suffering humanity. She vows to be the compassionate love of God in this broken world. Her house and heart are open to all who suffer – without distinction. This Sister is a “daisy” (“pâquerette”) in the flower kingdom: a simple plant, thriving in any garden, happy to be where it’s planted and ready to be of service to those in need, with a welcoming smile, a caring heart, a helping hand, a listening ear, and a word of hope.
