Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist
Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist – Sister Mary Matthew of the Heart of God, F.S.E. “Praise Be to You for All Beauty!” “Repair My Church.”
Foundresses: Mother Rosemae Pender Mother Shaun Vergauwen
Place: Meriden, Connecticut
Year: 1973 A.D.
Her Charism: Centered on the Eucharist, this Sister continues the plea of St. Francis of Assisi to “rebuild the Church.” She is a Spousal, Eucharistic-Marian Body of Hope who is shaped by the Spirit calling forth the joyful dignity of another’s being (like a magnet). Her mission is to restore a sense of the sacredness of human life in a world that knows the rupture between the sacred and the secular. Like St. Clare, she seeks to enflame humanity with a sense of the sacred found deep within each person through various ministries. As a tender spiritual mother who continually “falls in love” with her life-giving earthly journey, this Sister responds creatively to the questions posed today by the anxieties and urgent needs of the human heart.
